Upon the completion of the program the participants will be able to:
Discuss the features, dangers, and public health impact of heroin use/addiction.
Become familiar with key social/behavioral factors that should be considered with regard to heroin abuse/addiction.
Become aware of barriers to treatment management, particularly with regard to addictions.
Discuss misconceptions surrounding heroin abuse/addiction, particularly with regard to addictions.
Assess the multidimensional aspects involved in a heroin abuser.
Examine both misperceptions and preconceptions surrounding heroin use.
Examine treatment vs. punishment, as well as a moral stance vs. “harm reduction”.
Understand the role of a variety of treatment approaches in addressing both traditional and newer controversial approaches.
Develop a rational treatment plan on an individual basis.
